PACRA Portal Login and Business Name Search in Zambia

Most PACRA rejections start before the form is even filled in — a name that is already taken, or details that do not match your NRC. Here is how to use the PACRA portal, search a business name, and move straight into the correct registration form.

1Open the PACRA online portal

PACRA runs its services through its official online portal. Use a phone or computer with a stable connection and open the portal from the PACRA website directly — avoid links shared on social media, which are often fake.

2Create an account or log in

First-time users register with a valid email address and phone number. You will receive a verification code. Use an email you actually check, because every notice, invoice and certificate is sent there.

3Run a business name search

Use the name search service to check whether your proposed name is already taken. Names that are identical or confusingly similar to an existing registration are rejected, and so are names using restricted words. Prepare two or three alternatives.

4Reserve the approved name

Once a name is available, reserve it. A reservation holds the name for a limited period, giving you time to complete and submit the registration forms without someone else taking it.

5Complete the right form and submit

A sole proprietor or partnership files Form BN1 (Business Name Registration). A company files the incorporation forms, including particulars of directors. Fill every field exactly as it appears on your NRC, pay the fees, and keep your receipt.

Why name searches fail

  • The name is identical or too similar to an existing registration
  • It contains restricted words such as national, bank or government
  • Spelling differences only — these are still treated as similar
  • The reservation expired before the forms were submitted
